PETERSEN MEDIA: After coming together with Destiny Motorsports just over three weeks ago, Brandon Wimmer had quite the Memorial Day weekend as he picked up two podium finishes, one of them his first win of the season in Waynesfield, OH on Saturday night.
“It is awesome to see how far we have come in such a short time,” Wimmer said. “Our first weekend out was not great at all, and to be so competitive so fast, is a testament to this Destiny Motorsports team.”
Action kicked off in Limaland on Friday night, and Wimmer had his elbows up early.
Starting ninth in his heat race, Wimmer worked the Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Speedmart backed entry up to the fourth spot as the white flag waived, though only the top three transferred.
On the last lap, Wimmer made a bold move to steal the third spot, as he transferred to the feature event, where he would line up in the 13th spot.
When the green flag waved, Wimmer went to the stop side of the speedway, as he worked his way well inside the top-10.
As laps wound down, Brandon made contact with the front stretch wall, and slipped back to the ninth spot at the line.
After tearing the car apart to fix the damage from brushing the wall, Wimmer and company headed to Waynesfield, OH to take on the NRA.
Starting eighth in his heat, Wimmer again had to get his elbows up as only the top-three transferred, and the Fairmont, IN driver did just that as he scored a third place finish at the line, putting him in the feature event.
As fate would have it, Wimmer lined the Destiny Motorsports machine up on the pole, and after a pair of attempts at the start, Wimmer slipped back to the third spot when the race got going.
Getting up to second on the fifth lap, Wimmer took command of the race on lap 10 and never looked back, as he charged to his first win of the year.
With momentum on their side, the team headed to the Eldora Speedway, the venue of their first weekend together, on Sunday night for the Johnny Apple Seed Classic, and Wimmer did not disappoint.
With 33 cars on hand Wimmer timed in ninth fastest putting him in the first heat, where he charged from fourth to take the win, putting him seventh in the feature event.
In the feature event, Wimmer put his right rear tire right on the Eldora Speedway wall, as he began charging to the front.
In the fifth spot, Wimmer drove past Dustin Dagget and Jared Horstman in the same corner to take the third spot, as he charged after Butch Schoreder and Ron Blair.
With rubber being laid down late in the feature, Wimmer would settle for third.
Dropping a 410ci engine in the frame rails of his Mondak Portables No.9, Wimmer and team headed to take on the World of Outlaws at the Lawrenceburg Speedway.
Just missing the heat race inversion by one spot, Wimmer’s 17th place qualifying effort put him in the third row of his heat, where a sixth place finish put him in the LCQ.
A second place finish in the LCQ transferred him to the feature event, where he lined up in the 17th spot.
Wimmer was fast in the early goings of the feature event, as he rode the high-side to break his way inside to top-10 by just the eight lap.
By lap 11 Wimmer worked into the eighth spot, but unfortunately a shock stud broke, and Wimmer’s night was over, as he was credited with a 21st place finish.
“Aside from a bit of bad luck at Lawrenceburg, this was a great weekend for our team,” he said. “We were in contention every night, and as a team you really cannot ask for much more then that. I am very thankful for the opportunity that I have, and am excited to get after it again this weekend.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
