PETERSEN MEDIA: With a grueling week ahead of them, Brandon Wimmer and his Destiny Motorsports team hoped to string together some solid runs. The team has showed some very good speed, however, lady luck does not seem to be on their side.
Ohio Speedweek kicked off on Friday night at the Attica Raceway Park in Attica, OH. With 42 cars on hand, Wimmer timed the Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Speedmart entry in ninth fastest.
Scoring a third place finish in his heat, Wimmer narrowly missed out on a Dash berth, and started the feature in the seventh spot.
On a very slick racing surface, Wimmer and company missed the set up just a touch, and Wimmer could not find any grip, and he lost several spots over the course of the feature event.
“We were just way too loose on a very slick track,” Wimmer said. “We had pretty good car speed all night, but just missed it in the feature, and went backwards.”
Bolting in a brand new Kistler Engine for Saturday night at the Eldora Speedway, Wimmer hoped to put together another strong performance at the track similar to the one he had towards the end of May.
With 32 cars on hand, Wimmer again laid down a strong qualifying lap as he timed the Keizer Wheels/Benic Enterprises machine in 10th fastest, putting him in the second row of his heat.
Scoring a second place finish in heat race action, the Fairmount, IN driver lined up in the fourth row for the feature event.
When the race went green, Wimmer found a liking to the top-side of the speedway, as he worked his way inside the top-five.
With his right rear right against the wall, Wimmer moved into the fourth spot, until he made too much contact with the wall, and he cut down his right-rear tire, and was forced to make a pit-stop.
Restart from the back, Wimmer was able to work his way up to a 14th place finish.
“We were pretty good at Eldora, and had a car that was capable of contending, but unfortunately at Eldora, when you run the top, you run the risk of rubbing the wall, and that is what happened to us.”
Heading to the Waynesfield Raceway in Waynesfield, OH, the Destiny Motorsports team had an eventful night.
In time trials, the push truck missed Wimmer’s bumper and got up into the wing of the car, and destroyed it, forcing the team to change wings, and take their laps at the end of the session, where they timed in 14th quickest.
Scoring a third place finish in his heat, and withstanding a brief rain shower, Wimmer eventually lined up in the seventh row of the feature event.
Wimmer had a great run in the feature event, as he raced his way up to the sixth spot, as the lead duo of cars were in a different zip code and lapping through the field.
While running in the sixth spot, a yellow waived, and the scorer’s deamed Wimmer had been lapped, and dropped him back to the eighth spot, and he restarted in between the leaders, rather than behind the fifth place car.
Stuck with nowhere to go, Wimmer ended up finishing in the eighth spot.
“For the life of me, I do not know how I got put a lapped down, and lost spots” he said. ‘I though with transponders problems like this wouldn’t happen, but it was out of our control. We had a decent car, and kind of got a raw deal.”
Heading to Wayne County on Monday night, Wimmer started 16th in the feature event. Working his way up to 10th, Wimmer’s car got very tight on him late in the feature, and he had a hard time keeping the car straight.
Wrestling his machine around for the final few laps, keeping it out of the wall, Wimmer ended up with a 17th place finish.
“I wasn’t too sure what happened at Wayne County, but when we got in the pits we found the bleeder stuck open in the right-rear tire, and just kept leaking out air, and it really made it tough to drive,” he said. “With Sharon getting rained out on Tuesday, we are halfway done, and we have been good, just hardly any luck.”
With three events left for the Ohio Speedweek, Wimmer currently sits seventh in points, just 21 markers out of the lead.
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Keizer Wheels, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
