PETERSEN MEDIA: Mother Nature finally let the season come to life at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night, and when the action packed night drew to a close Terry McCarl accepted the checkered flag in the fourth spot after lining up in the fifth row.
“We had a fast car all night long,” TMAC said. “We were fastest in hot laps, kind of got behind in time trials a little with the track slicking off, but we came to life in the feature as we went from ninth to fourth with no cautions.”
Starting his 2019 Knoxville Raceway season with a fresh Silva Chassis, McCarl timed the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.Com No. 4 machine in 14th fastest in time trials amongst the 33 cars in action on this night.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Altoona, IA driver would flex his muscles a little as he made a couple of nice moves to get to the lead and claim the heat race win.
Moving into the feature event, McCarl would roll off the starting grid from ninth on a very slick Knoxville Raceway surface. When the race came to life, McCarl would go to work on the bottom groove of the famed ½ mile has he slowly moved through the Top-10.
With the race clicking off laps with no stoppages, the leaders would spend much of the night in traffic, which would allow TMAC to gain position as he worked into fifth and began closing in on Kerry Madsen in the race’s closing laps.
Chasing after Madsen on the white flag lap, both driver’s would get by Justin Henderson, and McCarl capped his night with a great from ninth to fourth.
“We busted a new car out for the opener, and I was VERY happy with it,” McCarl said. “My crew guys Doug Rankin, Steve Fitzpatrick, and Brian Foster did a great job and it was a great night. I am now looking forward to getting back to it this week on Friday in Lake Ozark, MO but on Thursday we will be at the WoO Fan Fest that is taking place at Fat Polly’s Pub. Hopefully we get to see a bunch of fans Thursday and have a great run Friday.”
