Winning Wednesday- McCarl Snags 5th Win of 2019

PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy stretch of racing over the course of the last week saw Terry McCarl pick up his fifth win of the season as he claimed his second career Harry Neitzel Memorial on Wednesday night at Dodge County.

“It was a pretty good week for us,’ McCarl said. “I really enjoy getting to Dodge County and racing, its really a fun track and to win another Harry Neitzel Memorial is really special; its great that his family keeps putting that race on.”

Going quick time in time trials aboard the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.com backed No. 4 machine, TMAC would run second in his heat race and find himself on the front row of the feature event.

Settling into second in the early laps behind Bill Balog, McCarl would do the veteran thing, and search around the speedway to see where his machine would work should they get into traffic.

An early restart saw McCarl capitalize on his efforts, as he got around Balog and left the rest of the field in his wake. Making one small mistake late in the race as he got over the cushion, McCarl would correct it quickly and race on to grab his fifth win of the season scattered among fiver different states.

Friday night McCarl and company went to Knoxville Raceway where they would compete in 360 action at the famed ½ mile speedway.

Earning quick time honors in his qualifying flight, McCarl’s third place finish in his heat placed him in the second row of the feature event. After an opening lap wreck, the 18-lap feature would go non stop as Carson McCarl would lead early over TMAC.

Slipping back to third at one point as Wayne Johnson got by, McCarl got up in the seat and made the middle work. On the race’s ninth lap, he would split Johnson and his son, Carson, to take over the race lead and begin motoring away.

Looking to grab his sixth win of the season as he took the white flag, McCarl would admittedly make a mistake in turns three and four coming to the checkered and it would leave the door open for Johnson to grab the win, and he would, as McCarl was relegated to a second place finish.

“We had an awesome car on Friday night, and I just made a complete rookie mistake on the last lap and let a win get away,” McCarl said. “If I stick the bottom we probably win, but I went back through the middle and lost some traction and finished second.”

Saturday night capped a busy week as McCarl returned to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night for 410ci action as the Altoona, IA pilot chases the track championship.

Trying a few things in time trials, McCarl added they simply didn’t work as he wound up 13th quickest on the speed charts.

Grabbing a heat race win, McCarl would find himself on the inside of row-five for the feature event, and on this night the outside lane would be the preferred starting position.

With the race going non-stop, passing would be tough as the field would get strung out. Slipping back in the early stages as he searched for the better grip, McCarl would salvage the night with a 10th place finish.

“The weekly deal at Knoxville is tough, and you can’t get behind in time trials,” McCarl said. “I am always trying something, and it didn’t work out on this night and we were in an early hole. All in all, good weekend for us, and good weekend for all the McCarls.”
