PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to racing action over the weekend, Terry McCarl and Destiny Motorsports had a great showing at Jackson Motorplex as TMAC picked up second place finishes both Friday and Saturday night.
“Doug and my guys gave me a great car all weekend long,” McCarl said. “Since they redid Jackson, that’s the best I have ever felt there. Friday night, it was a really good race, and I thought we were going to get Balog but we came up short, and Saturday night we ran second to my son, Austin, which made running second a little easier.”
Timing the MonDak Portables/Ft Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.com machine in fourth fastest on Friday night, the Altoona, IA driver would pick up a fourth place finish in his heat race and move straight into the feature event.
Finding himself in the seventh starting position for the feature, McCarl would go to work on the bottom side of the speedway in the race’s opening laps. Able to get off the bottom, McCarl would bide his time as he waited for the car to burn the fuel load off and ‘free’ up.
Working his way through the Top-5, TMAC would get into second with just a handful of laps to go as he closed in on Bill Balog. A yellow flag on the last lap would put McCarl right on Balog’s rear bumper for the Green-White-Checkered finish.
In an exciting two laps, TMAC would get around Balog to take the top spot when the green flashed on only to fall back to second as Balog stormed back by. The last lap saw McCarl again race into the lead, but coming to the checkered Balog would get back by and hold McCarl to a second place finish.
Back in action on Saturday night, McCarl would go out late for time trials and still find some speed as he would end up second fastest overall. Running second in his heat race, McCarl moved into the feature event redraw where the four pill put him in the second row of the feature event.
When the race came to life, TMAC would make some nice moves to get into second as he chased after his oldest son, Austin, who had jumped out to the early lead. A restart would see McCarl slip back to third briefly, before getting back by Justin Henderson, and locking in on his son who was still out front.
Unable to challenge for the lead, McCarl would hold on to the runner up position and close out a really strong weekend.
“It was a really fun weekend,’ McCarl added. “Like I said, the car was awesome both nights, and the track was really good with a top and a bottom in the feature event. Thanks to all the great people who continue to support this Destiny Motorsports car.”
