PETERSEN MEDIA: Terry McCarl and the Destiny Motorsports team made the trip to Texas worthwhile over the weekend as TMAC took top honors with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series on Thursday night before pocketing a fifth place finish on Friday night.
“Thursday night it was cowboy-up, heavy and rough and we were able to get the job done,” Terry McCarl said “It was kind of nice to show everyone that even though I’m older, I can still get the elbows up and cowboy up.”
Thursday night at Texas Motor Speedway, TMAC got his night off to a great start as he charged from sixth in his heat race to pick up a second place finish aboard the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.com backed No. 4 machine.
Moving into a qualifier, TMAC would again line up in the sixth starting position before his fifth place finish was good enough to lock him directly into the 25-lap feature event.
Lining up in the sixth starting position, TMAC would jump into fourth where he would ride until the caution flew for the second place car on the eighth lap. With the leader having engine issues under the yellow, TMAC would restart from the second spot, and as the green was dropped he was able to skate out front to the lead where he would start to gap the field.
With the elbows up, TMAC continued to lead the way until a late stoppage bunched the field back up. Nailing the restart, TMAC would go on to claim his first career win at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Back in action on Friday night to close out his weekend and bring the curtain down on the ASCS National Tour’s schedule, McCarl would continue his assault on the Lonestar state as he picked up second place finishes in both his heat race and the qualifier.
Lining up on the front row of the feature on this night, McCarl would look to cap the weekend sweep on a surface that was hard a slick; polar opposite from what Thursday night offered up.
Falling back a few spots early as he waited for things to come to him, TMAC would slip back to fifth. Able to work his way back through the field as the race settled in, the Altoona, IA driver would make his way back up to second.
As the laps clicked off in the race’s homestretch, McCarl’s Destiny Motorsports entry would start to get loose and it would lead to him slipping back to finish in the fifth position.
“Doug really had us good all weekend long,” Terry McCarl said. “Friday night we just got a little free at the end and we slipped back, still a great weekend for us. I have to thank my guys for their hard work, as well as all the people who have their name on the car, their support means a lot.”
