PETERSEN MEDIA: Two nights of action took place at Knoxville Raceway over the Independence Day holiday weekend, and it went well for Terry McCarl and Destiny Motorsports as the team finished second on Friday night before capping the weekend off with a fifth-place run.
“It was a pretty good weekend for us at Knoxville Raceway,” Terry McCarl said. “We were really good late in both features, we just needed to be a little better than we were earlier.”
Friday night McCarl got the night kicked off the by timing the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.com backed No. 4 machine in third fastest in time trials.
Running fourth in his heat race, TMAC moved into the feature event where he would start on the front row alongside Brian Brow. With Brown getting the jump, TMAC would hold down the second position in the early laps.
Slipping back to third on the race’s fourth lap, McCarl would fall back as far as the fourth spot before a late race caution bunched the field back up with just three markers left in the race.
The ensuing restart would be extremely kind to McCarl. Getting the Destiny Motorsports machine wound up, McCarl would race his way past Lynton Jeffrey of the third position, and kept the momentum up top rolling as he would get by Davey Heskin on the final lap to record a second place finish.
Looking to build off a very strong finish to Friday night, TMAC and company were back in action on Saturday night as McCarl got the night kicked off by timing the STC/Real-Geese/TH Custom Mfg. machine timed in seventh fastest in qualifications.
Recording a fourth-place finish in his heat, McCarl would move directly into the feature event we he gridded the field from the seventh starting position.
From the fourth row, McCarl would put together another strong 20-lap feature event as he patently raced his way into the top-five. Taking advantage of another late restart, McCarl would again get by Jeffrey as he took over the fifth spot before recording a fifth-place finish.
“We will take our Top-5’s from this weekend, and look to build on them and be even better coming as we return to Knoxville for two more nights this weekend,” McCarl noted.
